We manage the myhealthlondon website on behalf of the 32 Clinical Commissioning Groups in London. It supports the NHS with promoting health and care awareness campaigns to the millions of people who visit, live and work in the capital. One key element was missing: a directory to point people to the right available services.
We developed an innovative solution that allowed people to search the NHS Directory of Services (DoS), a clinical database that means people can be assessed, ‘triaged’ and sign-posted effectively.
This is the same database used by the NHS 111 telephone service, which is managed by dedicated teams to ensure the information is accurate and includes a validation process led by medical professionals. It also helps to reduce the pressure on urgent and emergency services by reducing unnecessary hospital referrals.
We are now leading on efforts to combine the NHS DoS with local authority and voluntary sector service data. The ambition is to create a ‘single source of truth’ for finding public health and care services in London.
myhealthlondon is a real example of using digital communications to drive public awareness of health and wellbeing provision, enabling them to access the right service at the right time, resulting in cost savings and improved patient experiences.
